Internships available at Theatre of the American West
College art and theatre students have consistently been a large part of the success of Theatre of the American West. Dozens of highly qualified student artists have retreated here to practice their craft since 1991. In that tradition, we invite college age theatre artists to join us to develop their skills ...
- Living the life - it's one thing to show up for rehearsal, which is a perfectly good way to be involved, but it's another to move in with us for a while and be part of the day-to-day operation of a residential theatre company. "See" the operation - publicity, building maintenance, box office, food service, fundraising, on top of THE ART part - from the inside. By "see" of course we mean "do." Art is not a thing. It is a way.
- In the Costume Shop - Work under Kris Davies who has designed and built approximately 3,432,344 shows out of dust and a dollar bill, as well as some gorgeous big budget operas. See photos here.
- In the Scene (& Paint & Prop) Shop - Work under Dustin Witte and perhaps, occasionally, Dan Broberg. Both watched the master at work. Theare founder and scenic artist Charlie Davies taught Dan everything he knew and had a really good start teaching Dustin before he died in 2006. Despite being cut short, Charlie's career spanned forty years in the theatre and he or his students (Dan & Dustin and also Ann & Erin) painted everything we have from the mural on the side of the building to the drops and flats you see in every performance to the truck we have used for touring.
- On stage - work with three full-time, degreed, working theatre artists. Kris has an MFA in costume design and an MA in Speech from the University of Nebraska. Ryan has a BS in Speech and Theatre from the University of Nebraska. Dustin has BAs in English and Theatre from Doane College. Together they have almost 75 years working in the theatre.
